Upper Ocoee
The
Upper Ocoee is a 5-mile stretch that beings slowly, offering
beautiful views of the mountain scenery, but quickly gains speed for
the challenging Class III and IV rapids. The Upper features an
average gradient of 50 feet per mile demanding a rapid race
to the Middle Ocoee. The Upper Ocoee is for the experienced
guides and thrill-seeking guests.
The Upper Ocoee was the former site of the 1996 Atlanta
Summer Olympic whitewater events held in Tennessee. The intensity of the
controlled dam waters made Ocoee the idea location for the
challenging competition. The Olympics course is the main
attraction of the Ocoee River, and is located below Ocoee
Dam number 3.
