Frequently Asked
Questions
Whitewater enthusiasts from all over travel to the southeast
to explore the Ocoee River. Summertime tourists make up
most of our customers. Sunburst Adventures invites Georgia
whitewater enthusiasts to the Ocoee River for an unbeatable
adventure. Below is a compiled list of frequently asked
questions:
When should we arrive at Sunburst Adventures?
It is always a good idea to arrive early. Sunburst
Adventures suggests that you arrive 30 minutes prior to your
scheduled raft trip.
What should we wear?
During the warm summer months, guests are encouraged to wear
shorts and a tee shirt or a bathing suit. Shoes are required
on the water for your protection. Flip flops are not
permitted on the water; open-toed shoes or sandals can be
worn if they have straps to help keep them on your feet. Be
sure to bring along a dry towel, change of clothes, and dry
shoes for the return trip. Wetsuits and booties are
available for rent for a small fee.
What about rain?
Rain does not prevent trips; we go rain or shine! You are
going to get wet on our adventure anyway, guaranteed. In the
event that Sunburst Adventures must cancel a trip due to
inclement weather, you will receive a full refund.
Does Sunburst Adventures offer instructions?
Yes. Prior to getting your feet wet your guide will take a
few moments to discuss safety precautions and tips to help
ensure a safe and enjoyable day on the river.
What is a cap day?
On certain days in the middle of the summer, the state
of Tennessee limits the number of guests an outfitter can
take on the Ocoee. Once this number has been reached the
outfitter is at ‘capacity.’ This keeps overcrowding from
happening on the river. Group rates do not apply on cap
days. Advance reservations are strongly advised, since you
never know if your group has chosen a cap day.
Is it necessary that I make a reservation?
No, not necessary, but strongly encouraged. Contact
Sunburst Adventures as soon as you know the dates you are
interested in, and the approximate number of people in your
group. Some days book more quickly, so advanced reservations
can ensure your first choice.
When is the best time to go rafting?
Because the Ocoee River is dam released, and not
dependant on rainfall, we have consistent water flow all
season long. If you are looking to avoid crowds, plan to
raft any weekend in May, or weekdays (Monday, Thursday and
Friday) in June. October is also a popular time to raft, as
the fall foliage along the river is vibrant.
What days are available to raft?
Water releases on the Ocoee River begin generally the
last weekend in March and continue through the first weekend
of November. Rafting is available on the Middle Ocoee
Thursday through Monday during the months of June, July and
August. Rafting is limited to the weekends during the spring
and fall months. Water releases on the Upper Ocoee happen
between early May and late September.
Does Sunburst Adventures hold office hours?
We try to answer the phones around the clock, but our
posted hours are: Monday-Friday 9:00am- 5:00pm, Saturday and
Sunday 9:00am- 5:00pm. Please leave a message if you are
unable to reach us, and we will return your call quickly.
Is there an age limit?
The state of Tennessee has set the minimum age limit on
the Ocoee River at 12 years old. There are no weight or
height restrictions, but you should be in reasonably good
health.
Can I Request a guide?
Certainly! However, we cannot guarantee that all
requests can be honored. We will do our best to ensure that
your favorite guide is on your trip!
Do I have to sign a waiver?
All guests are required to sign a waiver form before
taking any trip on the Ocoee River. Any participant under
the age of 18 must have this form signed by a parent or
guardian. Our waiver can be found on our website.
Do you offer discounts for large groups?
Sunburst Adventures offers savings for large groups.
Give us a call to let us know what your needs are, and we’ll
customize a trip for your group.
Are gift certificates available at Sunburst Adventures?

increment. Our gift certificates make the perfect gift for
whitewater enthusiasts.
